Have you tried using other web explorer like chrome or mozilla? Or do you really need IE 8. We have to ask this before we can give a clear and direct answer for your problem.

Confused again Please help! I did a clean install for xp pro and ie8 is downloaded but my computer won't recogize it. I can be on ie8 and it still says I don't have it. I downloaded it several times but same thing. I can't validate because of it. I only have 2 days left.

hopefully your issue is already resolved =)
There are many steps to fix the said IE 8 issue but it would take you a long time to get it configured but In any case I would suggest for now revert back to IE7 most probably you’re experiencing software compatibility issues - remove it, revert back to IE7. (Control Panel --> Add or
Remove Programs -> Locate and remove it.) Then restart your computer.
