I'm struggling to texture car headlights for realism. I've come close, but there's always some angle that it looks fake. I've attached two cars I textured recently. The red car is not too bad, but still not good enough. The blue car looks better from the front, but loses it at this angle.

I've been trying all the tricks with fresnel, texture maps, environments, etc. A good tutorial on this would be great.

    Thanks.

if you want Scratches n' stuff at specific places then you may have to unwrap UVs for it, take the UV into photoshop and add a rust, scratch texture in there.

You can have a layer with basic paint(eg: red), and then below it, take a layer with rust texture on it. and do masking on the color layer, wherever on the car you want the scratches.

but then , don't forget to make the composite texture's Specular Map and Bump Map, else the scratches won't stand out and would look a part of the car paint.

    Hope it helps you.

    Cheers!!!
