No sound when playing itunes

Tonight I noticed that my itunes music can play but NO sound came out, although my sister downloaded some music earlier today and that plays. I have all my music in a extended hard drive (due to hd space issues) and my itunes library and such are in its original path. Everything has been working fine every since and I hope this forum was the right place to come for help.
