Can't open Itunes 7.6

Hoping that one of you knowledgable folks can help me.

I have an Imac 2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo computer. Over the course of several months I have downloaded several newer versions of Itunes from the original one that came with my system. I have a large library & playlist of music, and everything has been working fine. A couple of days ago, I got a message from software update to download the newest version 7.6. Assuming all was fine, I did just that. Now I cannot open my Itunes. I get a message saying that I need a newer version of OSX; namely 10.4.9 or higher. My current OSX is 10.4.7 Tiger. My question is: would I be better off downloading an older version of Itunes? Or, would it be better to upgrade to 10.4.9. I am worried that I might lose my library/playlist, if I delete 7.6 and go back to an older version.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the last version of Itunes that I was using.

Your opinion, and perhaps a step through on the deletion procedure of the 7.6 and conversion
backword would be greatly appreciated. I might mention, I use a dial-up service for the internet.
I live in a very rural area, and broadband is not available. Since that is the case, downloading a new OSX system would take forever over the internet. Where could I get a copy of 10.4.9. I don't believe it is any longer availabe through Apple. They seem to want to sell there 10.5 Leopard
system. Not sure if I want anymore bloated software.

Hey dws624, welcome to the forums. I'd suggest that you should download the latest copy of new OS. eBay would be the best place to oder the upgrade cds.

Also, if you want to revert back to iTunes read up on some of this posts and then post your questions/concerns here and i'll be glad to help you out.
