.dmg file with sytem 8.5 (mac)

I downloaded a new version (OK, it would only be new to me) of IE. I have 5.1.7 and it has its problems, but the most annoying one I caused myself. I can't see very well. I sometimes click on the wrong thing, and often click or hit return to get annoying dialog boxes to leave me alone! Sometimes it is wiser to actually read them though. I managed to convince Yahoo that I wanted the mobile version which I decidedly don't want. I tried throwing all sorts of things away, but I do not know if yahoo keeps the information, or it is just buried deeper than I can find. I am hoping that with a newer version and the other safely in the trash (at least I assume so), I might get a bit better performance, and get rid of this annoying Yahoo problem. I understand that I should upgrade in many ways, but I just do not feel like it at this time.

The problem that I did not see coming was this .dmg extension. It will not mount, and I searched and could not find any help. For an old program I would suggest using some sort of self-extracting file more appropriate for the age of these programs. If an alternative was available, and I just missed it, I would like to know where it might be. If someone has an idea how I can make the .dmg thing work that would work too. From my searches it seems unlikely though. Anyone who knows where I could get an old self-extracting archive of the last version of IE for the mac that would be great also. I have tried this a couple of time and it turned out just fine.

change the .dmg to .toast if you have it, then it opens up fine..... __________________
