Default .dmg file with sytem 8.5 (mac)

I downloaded a new version (OK, it would only be new to me) of IE. I have 5.1.7 and it has its problems, but the most annoying one I caused myself. I can't see very well. I sometimes click on the wrong thing, and often click or hit return to get annoying dialog boxes to leave me alone! Sometimes it is wiser to actually read them though. I managed to convince Yahoo that I wanted the mobile version which I decidedly don't want. I tried throwing all sorts of things away, but I do not know if yahoo keeps the information, or it is just buried deeper than I can find. I am hoping that with a newer version and the other safely in the trash (at least I assume so), I might get a bit better performance, and get rid of this annoying Yahoo problem. I understand that I should upgrade in many ways, but I just do not feel like it at this time.

The problem that I did not see coming was this .dmg extension. It will not mount, and I searched and could not find any help. For an old program I would suggest using some sort of self-extracting file more appropriate for the age of these programs. If an alternative was available, and I just missed it, I would like to know where it might be. If someone has an idea how I can make the .dmg thing work that would work too. From my searches it seems unlikely though. Anyone who knows where I could get an old self-extracting archive of the last version of IE for the mac that would be great also. Thanks in advance for any help.

We help not because we need to but we help because we want to.........there's a big difference between "need" and "want"
