I can't open anything i download!!

Please help, i'm trying to update this MAC OS 9.2 But everything i get to download wont open. Some try opening with the acrobat reader!! Please help This is the first time i use a mac, not having much fun.

First of all Mac 9.2 is pretty old system so you might want to Google older applications for MAC 9.2.

The document "File Exchange Preferences" could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found.
message after a restart.
I'm trying to load applications for the os 9.2 but nothing wants to open up. Down loads are fine until it comes to installing it.
