Yes, this is a system file for WinXP that is needed while booting of the system. Use your WinXP setup Disk and try repairing the Windows XP installation. this may solve the problem.

I agree! That additional instruction would be more helpful for booting the system

    Hello there again,

Actually every time i format a friends PC and that error pops i usually do some checking in BIOS. Maybe the hard disk was on the first priority booting device, off course it will declare nothing since it is just one empty space. And as i surf the net for possible answer, i stumbled into this website. Check this out and trust us this will surely help you repair you computer in no time.

Using your Windows XP cd, you can fix this problem by running the Windows Checkdisk utility.

    Follow these steps:
    1. Setup your system to boot from the cd/dvd drive.
    2. Boot from the Windows disk, let it load until you get to the screen that says "Welcome to setup"
    3. When you get to the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press R to go to the Recovery console.
    4. Choose Windows XP when it asks which Windows installation you want to log on to.
    5. You may be asked for an admin password. Type it in if you have one, but if you don't just leave it blank and hit enter.
    6. At the c: prompt, type "chkdsk /r" without the quotations.
    7. This process will take about 30 minutes or more, depending on the size of your partition.
You will know when chkdsk is done when you're back at the c prompt.
    8. When you are at the c prompt, type EXIT, and hit enter.
You will know when chkdsk was successful if the system boots back to windows without the NTLDR error.
