Smile Windows 9x Users: Improve your modem speed

Not everyone uses Cable/DSL, there are still more than 10 million users using dialup modems in the world. Even if your modem if apparently working well, the baud rate of your COM Port might not allow you to reach top-speed.

    To improve your port's speed:

    1. Click Start >Settings > Control Panel > System.
    2. Click the Device Manager tab, and click on the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT).

    3. Select the port your modem uses, click Properties, then click the Port settings tab and set the Bits per second to 115200 bps.
That way you won't have a sort of filter on the Port.

just in case, if something goes wrong switch back to previous settings. I found this tip surfing the web so I've not personally tested it. If you test this, please be sure to post your feedback.

Why didnt i think of this??

My friend has been having modem problems in his XP desktop for awhile now and i just had him check the port setting,it was @ 9600,i recommended the highest setting....

When i was on dialup i did this tweak also,i cant believe i didnt think to tell him this before...

I hope this works for him.....Thanks my friend!

Or you could just download the TCP Optimizer from Speed Guide. It's free and works well on all versions of Windows.
