We all know how important having a good antivirus protection on our computer, but the problem is choosing the best products that suits our needs. here are some tips to help you choose antivirus protection and to avoid to fall for the useless ones.

1. Effectiveness - You should check how effective it is by checking what threats it can eliminate. It is very important to know which product are able to cope with latest computer threats.

2. User friendly (Easy to use) - Choose a software protection that you easily use and without any complex and hidden menus.

3. Virus definition and scanning engine updates - It is very important that antivirus program offers a regular virus definition update or else you are just wasting your time and money on a useless software.

4. Real-time Scanning - This will help protect your machine at all times.

5. System resources consumption - Find a antivirus that is not power hungry.

6. Know Your Needs - if you don't go online every hour then a basic protection is enough but if your computer is always online then it is advisable to get all-in-one security software.

7. Technical support - Look also for antivirus makers that provides good support so you can easily get help any time or you can call them for an assistance.

8. Have a taste before you make a purchase - Test them before you purchase to help you decide if that software can really protect your machine.

yes, this is a good one. But it seems i cannot find the best antivirus yet. All of them cannot completelt detect all virus, sad to say but as you have said no ativirus can remove/detect all virus.

You know what I always do when I encounter a virus infections that are cannot be remove by my antivirus program is that I install AV that can effectively remove that virus and then I revert it to my original av.

I've tried AVG, Avast, Kaspersky, Bitdefender and NOD32... Nod32 proves to be the best among them. I've been using nod32 for almost a year now. no problem whatsoever.

Slave.......where did you get a full version of NOD 32.............i've been trying to look for it for almost a week but i guess i'm not that lucky....

Slavezero, Earlier I was using a combination of AVG free and RegRun for eliminating some nagging viruses. Now support for AVG 7.0 free has been stopped and AVG 8.0 Free doesnot support OS like Win9X. Can you give me the link for NOD32, I want to give it a try.

I do prefer avast home edition for my computer as it is very small program which has lager strength .

everybody thinks a certain antivirus is the best. it is always a different one. is there an official top/test of the best antivirus programs?

I don't think there are/is a official test site for that. You can always read the test made by high authority websites, they are more reliable.
