Default How to keep music library on portible harddrive?

I have all my music 50+gigs on my external hardrive. I installed iTunes onto the portable harddrive. I put all the songs into it on one computer, but when i plug the harddrive into another computer and run iTunes off the portibale harddrive, the whole music library is gone. as well if the computers doesn't have iTunes, iTunes doesn't work...

Is there any way to keep the whole music library when i plug it into a different computer?

(btw, I tried using Winamp too, it runs but the library is gone as well...)

When you install any music player, it is always installs some registries on a host computer. so as long as i know there is no real way to install itunes.

However, there is a way to install an external library. Here is what you need to do.

Install iTunes on your computer. (You will need a computer with itunes for this to work but i am certain that this method will work.)

install itunes, then plug in your external hard drive.

How to change a drive letter
To change an existing drive letter on a drive, on a partition, or on a volume, follow these steps:

1.Log on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
2.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.
3.Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management in the left pane.
    4. Right-click the drive, the partition, the logical drive, or the volume that you want to assign a drive letter to, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    5.Click Change.
    6. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK. \
7.Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the drive letter change.
The drive letter of the drive, the partition, or the volume that you specified is changed, and the new drive letter appears in the appropriate drive, partition, or volume in the Disk Management tool.
Change the drive to letter "W". Then add songs to itunes by selecting the add a folder to library. After you add all songs to the library. Export the library to the same folder where you have those music files on the hard drive.

Now you can take the music library with you and when you lug in your external drive, change the hard drive letter to W and import the library.

    Good luck
