Default help back up a corrupted ipod

Can somebody please indicate me how to back up on a PC folder all music from my Ipod classic. My challenge is that the ipod seems to be corrupt, in as much as when I connect it to my computer then itunes says that it needs to be restored (and for this reason I cannot see my ipod through windows explorer). Other than that the ipod is playing fine and does not show any 'corruption'.
I recently uploaded many CD into my ipod, but had to delete them from my computer because had no space. Now I want to back them up from my ipod into an external PC drive, but as I said I-tunes is saying the ipod need restoring (which erases all data) and I cannot see my ipod in windows exporer to manually manipulate the files.
Thansk a ton for your help !!
