Default New computer can't read old iTunes library

Hello... I am a new forum user driven here by desperation over my new iTunes!

I just got a new MacBook Pro and transferred all the contents of my older PowerBook G4 via Firewire, but not all of the music files transferred. So I followed instructions on the Apple website to copy my old iTunes Library folder to my iPod then transfer it to the new computer that way.

But now iTunes on the new computer won't open at all: it says "The file 'iTunes Library' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

I see there are many instructions on here about how to download an older version of iTunes and to uninstall the new one... but is that the problem here?? Why would the NEW computer say the OLD version of iTunes is too new??

    Any help much appreciated.

YOu can try this: iTunes: How to backup and restore playlists

Also try deleting iTunes Music Library.xml but that way you will lose your playlists
