    Default Installing iTunes

I am running Vista and when I tried to open iTunes (I last used it 2 weeks ago) I got an error message "missing files, Try downloading iTunes" to that affect. No luck...the download didn't work and I got the same message. I uninstalled iTunes and tried again x3 but same message.

I restored my system to an earlier date and same effect.

I downloaded 7.6 from Old Apps and same thing: the process goes through but when I click "run" I get the error box that it is missing files.

I have checked for updates from Windows and read info from Apple. Any suggestions?

Try downloading Free Download Manager and then download itunes from either oldapps.com or apple.com. It seems like that your file is not downloading completely. Often slow or loss in internet connection causes this problem.

Thanks for the quick response. I followed the directions and thought it was working but 2x during the install I got an error message: Cannot run iTunes because some of its required files are missing.

I clicked out of that and the install continued. The "Registering iTunes automation server" portion took a long time but finally the welcome screen came up and said that iTunes was successfully installed however when I clicked to open the very same error message came up about missing files and no iTunes. Any other suggestions?

I finally decided to see if Dell had any ideas as to my problem: here is the solution:

Apparently the problem was with QuickTime and it needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled (or updated). Then did the same with iTunes.

All this and 2 hours on the phone and via remote.
