I can't find a "my music" file & I don't know how to backup my music or playlist.

Before I downloaded Itunes 6 I thought I uninstalled 7 but when I downloaded 6 there in the list was 7 that apparently dnlded from your website when I was trying to get IT6. So I have 7 on my computer somewhere. Is there a way to go back & get my play list from 7 & then uninstall 7 & install 6 again? I didn't install 7- just dnlded it. Can you help me to straighten this out. The other person said they dragged a file onto the desktop but what file are they talking about? I am totally lost. Pl e a s e Help!!!!

    Thanks so much.

So here is what you can do but unfortunately you will have to recreate the entire library and all of the playlists in it. There is no work around this.
    • Unintstall iTunes 7
    • Go to "your username" and go to music folder.
    • Go to iTunes folder and move all of the files you see in it.
    • iTunes Library, iTunes Library Extras, iTunes Library Genius, iTunes Music Library, Temp File, etc. (You dont need to remove folders like "iTunes Music" etc.)

Now install iTunes 6 on your pc. Then go to a folder called "Previous iTunes libraries" and select the oldest one from the list. I hope that works out for you if not you will have th iTunes 6 but without all of your music. So in that case you can add music to your library by simply clicking on the file menu and selecting Add a folder to library.

    Good luck,

I installed 7.7.1(11) after dumping 8.0.0, did the .itl file discard, (also another file whose name I don't recall), had the 771 load up the library - 5200 files approximately - and thought everything was fine. BUT I can't get the thing to take any new art. Any ideas? Should I try a reload? (Hate the thought.) I have an eMac G4 that apparently overheats sometimes, which confuses the CPU and makes it lose things. Once or twice iTunes couldn't find the cd burner. Doesn't happen often, but...

No no need to reload. I suggest you ask at the apple's discussions forums. They can def help you out.

I'm having a similar problem... I had upgraded to the newest itunes & ended up being unable to synch my ipod. So i went back to 7.6 and i had no problem getting rid of the .itl and i now have all my music in my library and on my ipod HOWEVER

I am not without most of my album artwork (401 out of 443 albums without artwork) and it really annoying. Nothing seems to work and I'm trying to avoid manually adding 401 pictures. We had the art work before up ungraded and while using itunes 9 we had the artwork. The artwork that we do have was purchased with using itunes 9 oddly

Default need to go back to iTunes old Version

I am having problems with downloading iTunes. I have a WindowsXP version 2002, which is probably pretty dated. I was told that the new version of iTunes might not be compatible with an older computer. I have uninstalled the new version and installed an older version (66MB). When I went to click on the link, I had an error message that says that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close and asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft. This is the same message that I was getting with the new version of iTunes. Do I need to go with an even older version? I just want iTunes...this shouldn't be so difficult! Thank you for any advise....Monica

    Hi Monica,

Which version of iTunes you had installed on your computer before? And which one are you trying to install now?

I believe we had 66mb, but I am not sure. I am told that we used to have Itunes and it worked ok. This was uninstalled for some reason. I recently tried the new version and it would give me an error message. I uninstalled this and tried an older version (66mb) and it gave me the same message....it installs, but when I click on the icon the message comes up. I have uninstalled this...including Quicktime and any other apple software that was added with the install. I am wondering if I should keep trying different versions and hope that one finally works or is there another way? It would be nice to get a newer computer, but that is not an option right now. I am getting frustrated, but I am willing to keep trying to solve the mystery and resyche my Ipod. Again...any help or suggestions is appreciated. Thank you...Monica

Uninstall the following applications from control panel

    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (Itunes 9.x or later)

After this you can download older version from Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com

What you said is right but let me throw some light on this
sometimes we need to completely remove all the applications linked to the softwares so uninstalling all this application will remove all traces of itunes and we can thereafter install the older version with no conflicts,
