Default Help please - 09-29-2006

I have had one problem after another on my new laptop with itunes. I made the mistake of upgrading to itunes 7 and it wreaked havoc on my brand new PC, so I uninstalled 7 and tried to go back to 6.0.5 and now I can't get it to read my library either. I can't find the file it is referring to, so what do I do now?

Usually when you uninstall new version and reinstall old one, your music files are not gone. Just the list of your library is gone. You should have made back up of the library first before doing such. however, I will try to ask some other places for more help.

You need to go to the folder calld My Music. Then inside there is an itunes folder. Every thing I did was in the itunes folder. If you had the same problem I did you should be able to fix it.

Default What's next step? - 09-30-2006

OK, so I found all my music files. How do I get itunes to recognize them? What is so frustrating about all this is the files were originally an older version of itunes but I guess when I downloaded the v7, it screwed something up.

Simple. If you need to add those music file to your iTunes library.

Open iTunes, go to File menu, select "Add Folder to Library" and locate the folder where you have your music files are. Then the iTunes should easily import the list of music files you have in the folder.

Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks,
CP

The problem is that itunes won't even start running. I get a message that says the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of i tunes.

You need to find that file and drag it to the desktop. Then try to install the old version.

Hello, Admin,
I updated my itune to 7 and had lots of trouble with it, too. First it wouldn't sound at all, and when I followed the trouble shooting to finally make it sound, it was scratchy throughout the song being played.. Anyway.. so I found online this web and downloaded 6, then I ran into the same problem that user Dmel had----the itune wouldn't even start, and a message says "the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of i tunes." I did your suggestion, quote, "You need to find that file and drag it to the desktop. Then try to install the old version", and it worked!

Thanks~

My question is, can I put the file I dragged to the desktop back to the itune file???? Would it create problems? Coz I like to keep my desktop clean.

Thanks so much~
