to 7 and had lots of trouble with it, too. First it wouldn't sound at all, and when I followed the trouble shooting to finally make it sound, it was scratchy throughout the song being played.. Anyway.. so I found online this web and downloaded 6, then I ran into the same problem that user
Dmel
had----the
itune
wouldn't even start, and a message says "the file
itunes
library.itl
cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of i tunes." I did your suggestion, quote, "You need to find that file and drag it to the desktop. Then try to install the old version", and it worked!
Thanks~
My question is, can I put the file I dragged to the desktop back to the
itune
file???? Would it create problems?
Coz
I like to keep my desktop clean.
Thanks so much~
Hey hannie0502,
if you drag that back to the original folder. It will create problems. If iTunes works fine for you and there are no problems at all then you can delete that file.
ditch iTunes 7 and revert to old library -

Thanks for the advise in this post... after installing iTunes 7, and then 7.01, my computer was running really slow, iTunes was skiping and garbling and acting terribly... so I really needed to go back to 6.05.
For all of you that need to do the same it's pretty easy:
I downloaded the 6.05 install file from from oldapps, uninstalled 7.01 and then re-installed 6.05. When I ran iTunes it did give me the error message that the library file was created in a new version and couldn't open, but I then deleted the 'itunes library.itl' file (in My Music > iTunes folder) and then replaced it with the backup that was automatically created when I installed 7.01 (in My Music > iTunes > Previous iTunes Libraries). iTunes then started up fine with all my music and playlists. And all the skipping and CPU bogging is better now.
Thanks again for the app download and advice on the forum!!
hey im having a problem with the the itunes library.itl, before i uninstalled itunes 7 i went into my music>itunes> and copied that library.xml file from there to my desktop.. then i uninstalled itunes 7.0 and installed itunes 6.05.. i try to run it but im gettin that error msg "the iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read blah blah blah.. so what do i do know??? i still have the itunes 7.0 library file on my desktop.. do i put this file anywhere????
After installing the older version of iTunes, you might need to restart your computer and then if it doesn't find it. Can you please tell me what do you see on the iPod screen?
