Unhappy Big problem going back to Version 6!

First of all, let me say THANK YOU for running this site! It's a life saver.

Itunes 7 would only play about 1/4 of my library, but I didn't realize it until I was up to version 7.03. The songs all showed up, but most wouldn't play. They were not purchased or protected files... just regular mp3 files that used to work in Itunes 6. They are still on my Ipod but I'd be afraid to update it. Of course, all the files are still on my computer.

I unistalled 7 and reinstalled Itunes 6.05. I renamed my itunes.itl file and started without any itl file because I didn't know which older file people are renaming. Then I tried to rename the old itl file back, but when I restarted Itunes, it said the file was damaged and wouldn't open it. It renamed it itunes damaged.itl.

Then I imported my Itunes Library XML file, but I only got a small part of my library back, and it wasn't organized (I spent HOURS doing that). I just deleted all the songs in the library.

I still have all my itunes library files from version 7, but where is the backup file people are talking about? The only old thing I see is from an Itunes 4 library.

    Please help...

    Thanks.

Why don't you try this. Run iTunes and while you are running it. open your task manager (Right click on start menu and select Task Manager). It should look like this:

Look at your CPU Usage at the bottom and let me know what is the percentage on it.

    Welcome Abroad charliann,

Since there is a version difference between 6.0.5 and 7.0 I dont think that there is a real way to keep of the ratings, playlists, and songs. However, I will try to install the iTunes on my another computer and see how this will work out for you.

Unhappy Had to go back to version 7 - now what?

I can't lose my library. I spent weeks organizing it into genres and fixing all the other categories. I couldn't get version 6 to recognize my libraries so I uninstalled it and went back to version 7, then replaced the library files from a backup. Now all the songs are back, but about 75% of them just don't play.

I think I mentioned before that these are not protected files or files purchased from Itunes (I do have a few of those but most of those won't play, either). They are mostly mp3 files and they play in Winamp. I have 20 gigs - over 4000 songs, and they all worked in Itunes before verison 7. Now I don't know what to do.

I don't even care so much about playing the songs in Itunes as I do being able to play them on my ipod. I'm afraid if I sync them, all those songs that are playing now on my Ipod will stop playing.

I have to say I think it really stinks that Apple can make so much money from the ipod and song sales and still not give a damn about having a crummy, buggy verson of Itunes for Windows.

I'll try checking other forums, but if anyone here has any suggestions, please let me know.

    Thanks.

Okay I did that. Before running it the cpu usage is at 2-5 %. When I start running Itunes it goes up to around 15% and it makes som short jumps up to 65% and then back again. Then "the terms and condition" (or something like that) appears from itunes, and I press "agree" of course. (the terms and conditions appears everytime I try to run itunes). After I press agree the cpu usage jumps from 5-16% it it keeps on doing that,.. nothing more happens... Does this help you to find out what the problem is?

Since I have never dealt with this issue before I will give you honest answer. I don't know how to fix this. I was going to tell you that you should use copypod but since you already tried it, I don't know what else to suggest. If you have had that iPod for less than a year, you can contact the Apple Store here: http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebOb...n&mco=EC571521

Alternatively, you can also post this post in the apple discussion board

The only thing is that, this is normal for any iTunes usage. I run iTunes and it's the same for me to. By the way, I am sure there is a way to get rid of that annoying terms and conditions thing each time showing up. I used to had the same problem but somehow I figured out. Anyways, I am truly sorry for not helping you out here. I hope you will find a solution for your problem some other place like apple discussions forum. Good Luck

Default Albums disappeared from iTunes Music folder after 7.0

So I found myself in the same (crowded) boat as a lot of folks here: Happy with iPod and iTunes -- until 7.0. I found that 7.0 was slowing my computer immensely, bumping the CPU usage to 100 percent and freezing up 9 times out of 10. More troubling, many (maybe 2000) of my 6000 songs were suddenly giving me "original file cannot be found" messages.

Turns out somewhere along the way some albums (never individual songs, but not always entire artist-based playlists, either) were inexplicably snipped out of my iTunes Music folder. Everything was there when I had 6.0.5 and before, but not after 7.0. These weren't purchased songs -- just stuff I had burned from my own CDs. Some old stuff, some new stuff -- just random!

With the help of this forum, I was able to get back to 6.0.5, so at least my freezing problems are over. But the missing song files seem to be gone from my iTunes Music folder, and from my computer entirely (planning to check my backup tomorrow, but not too optimistic there). I guess there's nothing anyone can do about that now. But I'm curious -- did anyone else find some files killed out after installing 7.0 (or 7.0.2, in my case)?
