Looks like a permissions issue. Try using Mount.app (http://mount.houchin.us/) instead of Apple's built in DiskEmulator. That should let you mount the file easily.
Hi,
I've got a very old iMac running Mac OS X 10.1.2 and am trying to install iTunes 7.7.1 (which I believe is the latest version of iTunes that is compatible with OS X 10.1), but when I try to open the .dmg file I get an error message saying:
Mount Image
Could not mount
"users/[my user name]/Desktop/iTunes771.dmg
I followed steps in other posts to remove the previous version of iTunes, and I think I've done it properly but am not sure how I can tell whether I've done everything necessary to remove it completely!
Any help much appreciated!!

Hi, thanks for the advice. I tried using Mount.app but got the following error message:
"Sorry, "iTunes771.dmg" could not be mounted
The disk image file could not be mounted by Mount.app and may be corrupted. You can try mounting it with Disk Copy but your best bet is probably to just get a fresh copy of the image file."
I tried downloading a fresh copy of the file from www.oldapps.com but got the same message again. I'm not sure if it makes any difference that I am downloading the file onto a PC, and then transfering it to a Mac with a flash drive? (the Mac is not connected to the internet).
Grateful for any further advice!!
