in your setup.exe (which you are using right now to install) dont have all files. !!
Download that version from here. and try.
When trying to install older skype,it tells me new version available. I don't want newer version so it cancels installation. What do I do?

Which version are you trying to install?
I have a similar problem to kjakla.
When I try to install "SkypeSetup13066.exe" (7.3MB), which I downloaded from this web site, a popup window appears telling me that I must accept the available updated version. When I do not accept it, since the update only works with XP and Vista, the installer shuts down.
Is there any way of installing Skype for Windows 98se without updating?
PC is an ASUS A7V133-C M/B, Athlon 1.33GHz CPU, 256MB PC133 SDRAM.
Thanks.

Thanks iOLD for your efforts.
I downloaded Skype 3.5.0.239 but received a corrupted .exe file of only 85.5KB, instead of 23MB.
The same thing happened yesterday when I downloaded Skype versions 3.8.0.188 and 2.0.0.73 from download.oldapps.com.
The good news is that I was able to download and install Skype version 3.8.0.188 (21.2MB) from Skype.com.
All I did was ask to install Skype and there appeared a message along the lines that the latest version was not yet a finished product, and suggested that I could install the earlier (or a word of similar meaning-older?) version.
I just clicked on that highlighted word and downloaded and saved the .exe file to my desktop. I right-clicked the desktop file and checked it's properties and it was version 3.8.0.188, which I knew, from my previous download of the same (corrupted) version from oldapps.com, that it was supposed to be compatible with Windows 98.
I have not been able to test it with a Skype call as my Skype contacts are unavailable at present. The Skype sound test works but there appears to be a problem playing back my microphone recorded message. My voice tends to cut out far too much even though I tried various volume settings.
Fastwin.
1) Try to use some kind of download manager so that the file does not stopped in the middle of the download.
2) Skype should work fine as far as I know on Win 98. Not sure what the deal is with the microphone but I'm sure if you play around with it for a bit it should fix.
3) Are you using dial-up or dsl for internet connection and what's the speed of it?

Thanks help desk.
I have Broadband ADSL, 1500kbs.
The four Skype .exe files I downloaded from oldapps appeared to fully download, but only version 1.3.0.06 downloaded the complete 7.3MB file.
Skype 3.8.0.188 appears to work ok with Windows 98se. I fiddled a little more with volume settings and bios setup, and now microphone playback via the Skype sound test is improved and usable, though not perfect. I'll try to get an updated driver for my aged Sound Blaster Value Sound Card, and see if it improves things.
fastwin.
OK, but want to see if I can install free Skype on Windows Millenium Edition system?
Yes the version 3.8.0.188 works with Windows ME too.
