    Default Mac OS 9 Browser

I am trying to find a browser that will run on my iMac OS 9.1. This site lists a lot of them but every time i try to down load one i get either a message saying it doesnt exist or a page full of 'ascii' (i think) charecters.

How do i down load one of the OS 9 browsers from this site?

    007:

    Thank you.

I downloaded and tossed away a German language verison of iCab. I will try again.

But, if may i get 'technical' for a moment?

I was using a Mac G3 or 4 i forget which running X.3 or 4. with ISP.com who recently transfered their email system to google. The G3 finaly broke down and is unusable so i am using my older iMac running OS 9.1

I downloaded and installed Netscape 7 (my prefered browser) to the older mac, i even have a version 4 on disc and the 7 works for the internet, thus i am able to write this. But when i try to do email or newsgroups i get a message telling me i dont have authority to write the mail box.

Im concerened that its some sort of security certificate or some such thing with this older machine and OS and my ISP.

Needless to say my ISP's 'tech support" is of no help at all.

I will download the iCab and see what happens.

iCab works fine for what it does, but i can use my Netscape 7 to 'surf' the web and read news groups, i just cant get the Netscape email system to work.

Every thing i try results in a message telling me i dont have the authority to write the mail box file. So im stuck reading my e mail from google untill i can find an e mail application that will work with my os 9.1.

I had the same problem but a smart grandson suggested that I right click, but could not do that. He then suggested to choose either Contol with a click or option with a click or the apple icon with a click. That worked and I was able to down load the browser that I wanted.

    Good luck,

    Hello,

Just a few moments ago, while performing a Google search, I discovered
someone is searching a web browser for Mac OS 9. Maybe I'm a bit late
to answer, but maybe it'll be usefull.

A browser very similar to Netscape 7 but a little bit more up to date, or less
outdated if you prefer, is "Mozilla 1.2.1". Just do a Google search to get it.
Internet Explorer 5.1.7, in spite of some limitations due to new technologies,
can prove very usefull. iCab is worth a try but is a bit slow on my computer.
If you need a really good text only browser, there's "WannaBe.PPC.1.0b14".
I'm still hoping someone there among software makers will produce a fully
updated browser for Mac OS 9, but sadly some silly people seem to want
    this excellent system to disappear.

Concerning an easy emailer (text only !), there's "Claris Emailer 1.1v3" (don't
try the version 2.0 !), which should still be available for free on the web. Once
more, perform a Google search kind of "download Claris Emailer 1.1v3".
Of course there are other emailers, as for instance the excellent version 5
of Outlook Express. This version can be found on the Mac OS 9.1 install
    cd-rom.

Hoping this will help. Good luck.

    Paul,

Thanks for those great suggestions. I was finally able to get 5.1 to load and work but it get's ornery sometimes and asks for the disc to be inserted again - rather annoying.

I may try your other suggestions. Am finally getting my version of Eudora to behave.
