    Question Problems with Java, HELP!

Does anyone can help me to solve problems with Java?
I've experienced problems with Java : for example, if there is a need to use on some websites a pop up window powered with java script code I can not access it - it seems as I have no Java installed. But I have it. I have installed Open Office 3.0 with which comes Java.Recently I installed also Sun's StarOffice .The problems started with an attempt to install the update (jre6u12) : installation failed with message that there was not found a installation file jre1.6.0_11-c.msi .I looked on Java help for the error no.1714 but didn't found it.Than I tried more than once to follow instructions on Java site to download and install manually but every time it ended with the same error. I will appreciate any help, thank you.

JAVA is somewhat more confusing because you don't have to use it, it actually runs by itself when needed. Here are some tips that may help (i hope)

1)Try using older version of JAVA.
2)Try uninstalling JAVA and reinstall it. ( remember to check if all files are deleted) Sometimes when you uninstall a folder or a single icon remains.)
3)If you are downloading JAVA, be sure to download it completely. Sometimes when downloading it pauses for a seconds that causes some files not to be included in the download.
4)Tell me the version of you JAVA so i can help you further.
    5) Maybe you installed the latest version and trying to install again older version. (check it)
6)If the problem is still there, try opening Command prompt. If opening the command prompt makes your computer restart, your computer is infected by worm or trojan virus that causes your JAVA to malfunction.

    I HOPE THIS HELP.
    Post here the following:
    1) JAVA version
    2) Operating system
    3) Clock speed or cpu speed.

Thanks a lot RoiPatrick ! I will try to follow your advices and I will report back the result. Note: I had Java 1.6.0.7 and already made those uninstall and install actions what you suggested but with no detailed cleaning, so..let's go do it all over again ( As for new version : I use Update Checker and the new version offered is 1.6.0.12 , the error message refers to a missing installation file jre1.6.0_11-c.msi . After the message I have no other idea but choose the button 'cancel' installation. Then appears the message box: Error 1714, unable to remove the older version. Hey, it seems to be quite logical : I never had ver.1.6.0.11 installed so it can not be removed, right? This is why I went to oldapps.com to find it, but there was only ver.1.6.0.7 .
Thanks again, talk to you soon, have a nice day

I have found something new that might help you.
See what happens if you download from here; http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (you want the 'Offline' version if you have uninstalled your old version).

It could be that you have a Windows (rather than a Java) problem, but using Sun's manual download page may help clarify things.

I hope this will solve your problem.

I had the same problem and solved it. Start Regedit.exe and search for jre1.6.0_11-c.msi. Delete the key this is in and install Java again.

According to the manual, this step posted recently was the first and the very best step that you can do to solve your problem.
Thank you for posting such a wonderful option.
We help not because we need to but we help because we want to.........there's a big difference between "need" and "want"
