I have another thing which i think might work.
There's a program wherein you can disable a portion of your memory to run the program error free but it's not working 100% because it can only disable a portion for around 10 minutes i think.

    Hi,
I worked out that running a virtual machine does the trick on a steady basis. My brother in law pointed me to it and it works.
I have been in contact with GE Healthcare support too; after alsmost a week they also only suggested virtual machines.....
Since I think that while this helps, it is only a subobtimal solution, I kept complaining to them. Now they have promised to work on a solution within their software. So, there is hope! God knows when they come up with it.
I tested several VM programs, but I am not familiar with all these copy right issues etc. , so I do not know what exaclty I may talk about here..... But I will be glad to answer questions!

I should mention, that one must not emulate more than 512 MB RAM in any of the virtual machines. Otherwise Imagequant Tools will start giving error messages again and save manipulated images with very weird stipes etc..
Also beware that you do not run into licencing problems with you OS-provider! Does anybody know whether ImageQuant software packages run on Linux?

    Dear all!
After quite some time of communication with GE, I got a really good reply; they have worked out a proper solution. Please e-mail to support and state your case again. They should send you the updates. If there are problems, please post here. We can get in touch and solve the issue.
    Best,

    Best,
What did you say to them to get them to offer you the updates? I emailed them with the same problem and they replied with this:

ImageQuant 5.x is an older software and was never tested on WinXP or Vista. Occasionally, errors will occur when using this version of the software on computers with WinXP/Vista operating systems. The only fix that we have been able to find is changing the virtual memory settings on the computer. I have attached a document that shows you how to do that. However, this may not necessarily fix the problem. If changing the virtual memory settings does not fix the error, you will need to consider purchasing the current version of the software, ImageQuant TL v7. You can find more information and download a 2-week demo trial here --> www.gelifesciences.com/iqtl

Forking out another $3000 for a license isn't really an option for us :P

    Best,
I've been having the same problem as you, except the problem seems to occur when I try to run ImageQuant on my laptop with Vista (and 3GB of RAM). I've tried contacting GE and all they've had to say so far is to upgrade to ImageQuant TL. Was there something specific that you said that prompted them to give you the update?

i think you have to contact GE about this problem. According to previous post or post made by JGquanuser, GE will post any further updates regarding this error. But if upgrading imagequant will not solve your problem, kindly state it here so we can personally send an email also to GE.

    Dear rc2080,
we recieved a licensed ImageQuant TL 2005 with our Typhoon. This is supported by GE who recently got the source code for the older program parts of the whole software package. That is why they worked out an update for IQTools that we use frequently. The main package (IQ-TL 2005) is fully compatible with larger amount of RAM.
Any older versions are discontiued since they were courtesy of Molecular Dynamics and meanwhile have been replaced with newer software packages. As I understood from your post, you are using ImageQuant 5.X. This would not be covered by a license issued by GE and therefore they might not be forced to work out and provide updates for this, whereas the newer packages that were sold with GE-licenses are supported.
I agree with you that 3000 bucks is quite a number for software, especially for us working in universities etc.. I do not see another solution for you but to run your old IQ 5.X in a virtual machine. This is a bit tedious - I have done this for the past 4 months! But it will keep you from buying new software or not being able to use you old package anymore.
I guess you are using Vista or XP platforms right now. I found it easiest to stay with the Microsoft Virutal PC solution, because the better Virtualisation programs all required me to buy extra operating system licenses! That is because my CPU does not support virtualisation and this means I could not implement my original hardware manually, thus generating a virtual clone of my real computer which would have been recognized by my OEM-OS. The MS-virtual PC automatically recognizes this and you can use the very one OS you own simply as virtual machine as well.....
I implemented 512 MB RAM and all software, including the old Molecular Dynamics stuff worked fine. Since I could not implement USB support or printerports, I had to epxort all my data from the virtual PC via virtua networking. Again, quite tedious, but I could get my work done.
If I can help you any further, please let me know.
