    Default ImageQuant Software... Error Message

    All,

We are getting an error when trying to manipulates gel images on our lab PCs

We have one PC that is running IQ Solutions 1.4 and it works fine..

The other 4-5 computers, when trying to take an image and manipulate it in Imagequant tools will give an error saying "Not Enough Memory" when trying to save the new image. Imagequant 4.2 and 5.1 will not allow me to save as TIF files either

I have tried Imagequant 4.2, Imagequant 5.1 both use Imagequant tools 2.1 and neither one works. Also Imagequant TL 2003 and 2005 versions, same error(S)

Earlier today I uninstalled all the other versions and installed the 1.4 version which is working on the other PC. It uses Imagequant 5.2 and IQ Tools 3.0

with this version, I can save as TIF from Imagequant 5.2, but the IQ Tools still says not enough memory..

Have any of you had this same experience..? any ideas..?

    Thanks,

Check the specs of your computer.
Give me the specs of your PC and i will try the same thing before i can give further help and advice.
Also, check your hard disk memory or page file memory if it can support the file you're trying to save.
I will be waiting for the specs.
Thank you and have a great day.

i have no experience for Imagequant. let see what is admin's reply. !!
when i google for imagequant. i found
Software and hardware requirements of Imagequant is
    • 512 MB RAM
    • 80 GB hard drive
    • Compatible with Windows XP Professional or Windows
    Vista Business English version.

is all your lab PC have same operating system ?
    like..Processor, RAM ,System type..

The specs on the PCs are all very similar, All are less that 1.5 years old, the newest was purchased late 2008 around november.. All have at least 2 gb RAM, 2.4 - 2.8 Ghz processors, and the paging file in windows is from 2048 (starting size) up to 4096, and the hard drives are 250 GB, all from Dell..

The one PC that is running the software correctly is a Hewlett Packard 2.2 Ghz processor, with 512 MB ram and a paging file of only 756 MB starting size and a max of 1512..

This is the quandry, the older less powerful PC with less memory and a smaller paging file is running the software correctly without giving any errors, much less a MEMORY error..

I tried mimicking the settings from the PC running it correctly on the ones in question and it wont let me reduce the size of the paging file to match saying that it will potentially cause some other programs to stop functioning correctly..

ALSO.. I tried running the Imagequant software in COMPATIBILITY MODE and when I try to manipulate the image in ImageQuant tools, such as rotate, etc. instead of the error, it just closes the program..

    Very strange indeed..

    Thanks,
    Dave

There's a file or another program that causes the imagequant to stop responding when you try to do somethings. With a page file like that and memory to match and a huge hard drive you should be able to manipulate everything in that computer. Just a guess check whether your files and settings about image quant is fine.

    Dear all,
I am having this trouble on a lab PC since last week. I upgraded my RAM from 512 MB to 2GB. Since then,
trying to manipulate scanned .gel files or save them as .TIFF delivers the same error message or makes Imagequant
(either TL 2005 or older versions like 3.0 etc.) stop alltogether. GE lapidarily states on one of their pages that
Imagequant cannot handle memory/virtual memory above 1GB (rediculus!). But indeed, when taking out 1GB (out of 2GB)
the programs work just fine. But even when inserting 2GB and reduce the virtual memory down to 1GB the program
stalls or gives an error. On my laptop I am using Vista Ulimate and 3GB of RAM but everything works allright!!!
I am waiting for a reply from GE. I e-mailed them on Friday. I do not expect much of them though. I will let you
know, and meantime try to work out something. But it is quite odd to use a powerful PC to produce data in a
reasonable time and then being limited by a stupid program that virtually eats memory and, being provided, with it
    simply gives up!!!
    Best,
    Joachim

Yes. I just experimented on that since there's also a report about having problems with imagequant when your RAM is larger than what imagequant can handle. Imagequant cannot handle more than 1g of RAM. Over speeding may occur when you memory reaches 2g just what you have said. Why work on laptops? Laptop processor are on high definition mode than desk top processor so desktop processor cannot ride with the flow of a huge amount of RAM while laptops can.

    Hope this answers your question.

Thanks! Yes, it does, well at least partially. I had no idea about the mode of processing in orchestration with RAM flow...but logical indeed. I was suspecting the OS already to be the bottleneck. Until finding another solution that means either staying with only 1GB RAM in the desktop computer or using Imagequant on a mobile PC then...

Yes, that should do the trick. Anyway, a 1g of memory is big enough to support almost all files you needed for your desktop.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post it here and we will help you as soon as we can.
