Question 4th Generation IPOD not recognized in new laptop

My old PC is dead and bought a Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop with Vista. So now I have no access to my music except for what’s is on my IPOD. But, my 4th generation 2GB IPOD is not recognized in by My Computer, but my 512mb shuffle is. I don’t even get a message saying the USB is not recoginzed. I don't get anything however my IPOD charges. I’ve done everything including downgrading to the earliest version for Vista Itunes 7.2.0. I've also updated drivers and still nothing. HELP!!!!

Did the ipod work with your old laptop? If it did then the best thing I'd suggest is to use a program like CodersHole (download files on the left)

See if that program helps at all. Another thing that I would try is that restore the ipod to its original settings. (This will erase all of your songs on the ipod so do this as a last step)

Thanks for the input. My IPOD did work with my old Dell PC. I used CodersHole but it says no IPOD found. I can't reformat my IPOD because my laptop doesn't recognize it. Any other suggestions?

Have you tried putting the ipod into another computer, just to see if it gets recognized at all?

I used with another computer and it recognizes it. I checked computer device manager. Disabled enhanced USB rebooted, rebooted Ipod and still nothing. All my drivers are up to date.

By the way, it's actually a click wheel 4th generation 20GB classic. I think I got it in '05, but I don't think that shouldn't matter since it works on other pcs. I know, I'm stumped.

The problem is not in your iPod, the problem is in your computer, there is a certain program or applicaton that blocks your iPod. Try this, if you have any usb device like usb memory stick....try plugging it in the usb port where you plugged your iPod. It must be detected by the computer...then update this post.

Thanks. I actually checked it with a regular memory stick and also my 512mb ipod shuffle. The shuffle is detected and loaded in itunes. The USB cord works just fine. I got 3 of them thinking it must be the cord, but that's not it either. I appreciate all the input!

I'll check for other solution regarding your problem. Only your iPod is being blocked as you have said other usb devices is detected but not your iPod.
Kindly check this post for updates.
Thank you and have great day.

Search for the usb driver of your computer and at the same time search for the driver of you iPod. Maybe both drivers are missing, if so this will really block you from using your iPod.
