What is the best browser for OS X 1.2.8?

I live in Lanai City, Hawaii, population 3000, on the island of Lanai. We are half an hour by air from Honolulu, 1 1/2 hours by car and ferry from Maui.

I like older Macs, having first taught on a 512K Mac before the hard drive came out for it. I hope I have found people who still value older machines that are not obsolete as long as they do what we need.

I was running Firefox on my G4 Powerbook, until I had the bright idea to organize and run the "Software Install and Restore". I lost my Firefox and a whole lot more. OS 9.2 still works, thank God.

Next time I flew to Honolulu the Mac Genius people got OS X 1.2.8 to run after trying for 1.5 days. But I need information from someone who actually remembers and likes older Macs.

What is the best browser for OS X 1.2.8? I am "Environmentally Challenged" and cannot use a newer Mac than my G4 Powerbook. I have a brand new computer which I cannot use. The outgassing laquer in my new Mac mini makes me ill. Apple advertises it as being "environmentally friendly". I am part of the environment and it makes me sick . . . there is an advertising loophole here somewhere.

I am guessing that I had Firefox 2 but am not sure.

Firefox 2.0 and older runs on MAC OS X 10.2 and above. Take a look at Old Version of Firefox for Mac Download System requirements are posted on each version.

I think version 1.0.7 would work on Mac 10.X I think Old Version of Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 for mac Download - OldApps.com

I am late here to help you this time . I do also think firefox 2 will be useful for you. But if you want to be risk free section then use under 2 version.

Hi Guys thanks for your info
I have an old mac note book that runs off OS X version 10.2

Hence following the threads below & needing a new browser ( currnetly using internet explorer v 5.2). I followed the links to dwnload a version of firefox 2.0

pls note there are 20 different versions of this as well.

However when I try to download them , I can only get so far before the system just stops downloading & i'm left with a page of program speak ( sometimes it downloads 17.0 of the 17.1 MB required & then freezes). How do I get it to finish downloading - is it something in the internet explorer program that stops it?

any help would be grately appreciatd

Thanks to your help, I have been using Firefox 2 for a few weeks.

Last week Mozilla automatically updated to Firefox 2.2. It seems to be working.

Firefox 2 did not work until I upgraded to OS X 1.2.8. Because I had reinstalled my software to "clean up" my system I could not load 1.2.8.
The "Genius Bar" guys at the Apple Store had to get in touch with someone in Cupertino to bypass a security snaffoo that keeps you from downloading 1.2.8 anymore.
