Yes you can use older version but if ever skype ask you to upgrade it just click no or later (if later option is available.) If you meet or encounter some sort of trouble feel free to post it here and we will help you the best as we can. Here's a link to skype 1.4.045

    hi,

well, there is no "later" option.
so i have only the yes or no option.regardless what i choose,
    they close skype.which is sad.

    i am using the 1.4.0.78
    version.

it is really sad, as i am very happy with this version.

did you try using newer version of skype instead of sticking to the skype version 1.4.0.78?? maybe the output will be different.

    no, i have not.
i wanted to find out at first, if i can use my old version
if it is not possible, i must try another, newer one.

to me it looks, as if skype itself is rejecting the older
    versions......

I think it's not the skype that trying to reject itself from being installed i suspect it's your PC who's the one trying to reject the skype. I think for windows 98 you can use older skype but i haven't try new version on win 98 yet. I will let you know but i'll have to try it out first. What ever the result i will let you know.

This may do the trick, i had this idea suddenly pop out of my head so i will share it to you. Do you know how to do a system restore in windows 98? If yes do that and restore you computer to a date where skype is installed already. Send me the results. This will definitely work. Hope so.

    hi,

i am not sure, how to restore it.
i used the version for at least some quarters.
then suddenly in feb when i wanted to log in, the window
opens telling me, that a newer version is available.
then skype closes and that is my problem.

i had a version that was running nicely, making me 100% happy.
and then...... skype "helped" me with the new version...

    I get it.
All you have to do is to reinstall the version you are using. Skype will only ask you to upgrade if a new version is released other than that if they don't have a new release they will not ask you to upgrade.

    hmm, it does not work.
a window opens telling me, that i MUST upgrade to a newer version.
to me it looks like there is no chance to use the old version .

is somebody still using older versions?
