The problem is, each new Skype version is bigger, more bloated, with a worse interface, and uses more ram and bandwidth, and has more excess features that you don't need; such as shopping, keypad, broadcast etc. Thanks, Skype.
Roipatrick is also mistaken in that reinstalling the same old version of Skype will not work - immediately you have done that and reconnect, the same 'upgrade now' box will pop up again.
For those of us running perfectly good Win 98 machines, slow machines, or minimalists, this constant upgrade cycle is a pain. Skype 2.5 is the earliest version that will still connect to the network. Skype 3.8.0.188 is the latest version that will still run on Windows 98.
I'm still trying to find a fix to how Skype *keeps* trying to run every time computer starts-up, even when you have set it not to.

i have been reading here in the last weeks.
to be honest:
that is 100% what i want, if possible, i will wait for your "trying"

.
the more and more ram story and "features" that we do not want is a 10000% agree!
it is like cars, they have some new systems like 25 airbags, etc.
in the end, the car is heavier and heavier......needing more fuel, power.
we all will face the consequence in the future.
