When I was on dial-up (back in the old days) I used GoZilla 3.9. GoZilla can be set to dial out at a scheduled time and download any pre-selected file while you sleep. It can then disconnect and shut down your computer. It's been a long time since I've used it and I'm not sure how well it will work on Vista.

Nothing, however, can actually speed up your connection. Dial-up is limited to a certain speed and cannot be made to exceed that speed in software.

As what the doctor said, you cannot speed up the downloading process of your computer when you are using dial up on the other hand you can schedule your download like pausing it and continue it later or any time you want using download managers.

Thumbs up Re: I need a free program that will speed up downloads

I think, speeding up download while using a dial-up connection is not possible.
It will be better for you to use a download manager to pause, continue, schedule and postpone download of any file so that download can be restarted from the same point even if you are disconnected from internet.
Try Free DownloadManager from the following link=>
    www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm
It can be installed on the following operating systems
Microsoft Windows 9x/ME/2000/2003/XP/Vista (32bit versions only).
    Good Luck

We used to do what is called "shotgunning" a modem. You take two modems, or one modem with two line inputs, connect two separate lines to the modem(s), and dial out to either two different accounts or one account if the ISP allowed it. It was very cool, but it never quite doubled the speed. Yeah, those were the geek old days!

I think shotgunning is using two internet dial up account in one computer making the speed double by combining the two account.

Is that what i'm thinking it is?

yeah its what yo u htink it is the only issue is getting windows to see both mmodem lines in Vista they dont even come with DUN installer I think microsoft is trying to get ppl away from dial up and only urnthe net with cable/dsl
the other version of this is using aDSL which most carriers dont even support it uses a ADSL modem instead of the regular one channel variety
