Question Please Read This!! Need information, also want to share some.

    Hi all of you guys,
I have downloaded the CD image (.iso file) of a linux based operating system (xubantu 8.04.1) and burn it in a CD. Now I want to know whether a linux based operating system can be installed in one partition of the HDD as already one windows (Win98) is installed in another partition. I would like to use both the OS with dual-boot option. IS IT POSSIBLE?

Next, I would also like to know is there any freeware antivirus for Symbian s60v2 based nokia smartphones?
(e.g. Nokia 6600, 7610 etc.). Please give me the download links.

Lastly, I would like to inform the administrators of this forum that many versions of 'K-lite codecs' available on oldapps.com DONOT support win98 though it was wrongly mentioned in all versions that it would support win9x to vista. Please check this.

Yes it is possible to have two OS but be sure that they are not both server OS.

Two OS on the same PC can be installed in two HDD partitions like many people are using Win98 on C: drive with Win2K or WinXP on D: drive. but I am not sure about a Linux based operating system with windows. Need suggestion and guidance on that issue.

Vishal, the link provided by you contains many mobile antivirus but mainly cracked versions by PDA groups. I asked for purely freeware mobile antivirus released by the developers. As cracked versions sometimes contain the virus itself in the setup, these are not reliable. One antivirus cracked by somebody called 'Illusion' contained 'Trojan.SymbOS.Flerprox.a' virus which was cleaned by a genuine trial mobile antivirus. So need to be carefull.

    To Administrators,
K-lite codec packs available in oldapps.com beyond version 2.88 are not compatible with Win98. But all versions upto 4.85 mentions Win9x as compatible OS. Please check that.

It is not good to use the dual partition in one drive. It is better to use individual partition. And i think you will not fetch any problem for that . And if you want to use various Os in your pc then you can also use acronis Os for your pc. try that ..

Yes, it's very much possible to have multiple OS on one drive. I have a computer that has Vista and XP installed.

I agree with Vishal, mobile AV's are useless. it's much better to reformat your phone as well as your memory card to totally clean your phone.

    Hello,

No, you can't normally install Linux on only 1 partition. As far
as I know you need at least 3 partitions, called:
    - Root, the system files
    - Home, your own files
    - Last but not least: a swap partition in any case !

Dual boot is, also as far as I know, always a default option,
although you should keep in mind to always first install
Windows, and then only Linux. Windows will otherwise
wipe awy the Linux boot sector. Don't forget that Windows
    also needs its own partition...

This being said, installing Linux is not that easy and lot's of
configurations seem possible. On the Web you'll find a lot
of information. Just "Google", "Yahoo" or "Bing" a little ;o)

Concerning K-Lite for Windows 98, you're absolutely right
and, if I'm not mistaken, the best and probably the only really
useful version for Win98 seems to be the 2.8.8 one.

    Best wishes,
    Paul
