Well it depends if someone has actually taken over your account or not.

Few things I suggest.
  1. Change your password from some other computer
  2. Download a fresh copy of The home of Spybot-S&D! and run it on your computer
  3. Make sure you do not use other computers to log in and check your email.
As a computer security expert, I know that it is very easy to steal passwords and if someone has installed keylogger then they will keep on using your information. So make sure that your run anti-virus and anti-spam on your computer at least once a week. And in case if you do see some trojans, keyloggers etc,. Remove them and reset all of your passwords immediately.

p.s. : Now go change your password lol

They can, if you opened it on another computer which contains key logger programs. Try not to open email add in suspicious computer rental shops and cafes.

Yes esp if you are the apple of the eye of the "hacker". There are hundreds of ways to open your account.
Before proceeding, may I know if you share computers with family members or friends. If you use "remember my password" chances are, there is no needed to hack you... and your password can be seen by other users.

Second, I know that there is a program used in hacking password. Refrain from putting your bday and location at your profile, for it may be used in retrieving your password.

If you often visit internet cafe or any other computer and open your email, you are more prone to be a victim of programs like keylogger.

I suggest that you change your password more often, at least when you have the chance to use your personal computer. Try using different combination of letters and numbers both upper and lower case.

For a good password that is easy to remember for you but hard to guess for the others, you can try using this technique.

My brown & chubby pet cat Sarah is 4 years old.
Your password may be... Mb&cpcSi4yo

Try to construct sentence and use the beginning or ending letter as your password.

A good strong password should contain no actual words found in the dictionary, and should contain letters, numbers and commonly used symbols like:

!%5cFWw!2)

If you keep your passwords in a text file and only copy and paste them into the password field, keyloggers will only record that you did a copy and paste but will not record the actual text of the password itself.

  1. Install Spybot S&D in your system and scan for all spywares installed in that PC. Remove all of them.
  2. Remember to uncheck "Remember my Password" option before log-in to your account.
  3. Create a password which is easy to remember for you but difficult to guess for others. But it should not be a word to be found in dictionary. You may follow the pattern advised by 'slavezero' or 'The Doctor'. Never use your birthday or lover's name or some other information as password which is known to others.
  4. Change your password frequently from a computer thoroughly checked for viruses and spywares.

I definitely agree to this post. This will absolutely and 100% protect your password.
