Since begining of 2009 live.com network (former msn network) doesn't acceot this client anymore (version for NT4/2000/XP, it still works fine on 98/ME).
Perhaps someone should update the information.
BTW there is patch available here:

(I tested it working fine on NT4/2000/XP/2003)
Without the patch Messenger 5 cannot login to live.com and nags to upgrade to newest Live Messenger (which doesn't work on NT4/2000 anyways).
