Default ati driver for directx 7

    Hello!

i have a gateway 300 which I use to run windows 98 on.I use this computer to play the old games-such as the original Thief and such.
I have a Ati radeon 7000 64mb graphics card.I am looking for a old Ati driver that will support directx 7.Any suggestions? Thanks,Chad

This Web site claims to have an earlier version of that same software.

Why are you running DirectX 7? According to The Software Patch, you should be able to run up to version 8.1. I wonder if the DirectX drivers may not be up-to-date enough for that card.

Have you tried the Omega drivers?

Go to this page. Scan down the list until you reach version 2.6.37. Those are compatible with Windows 98.

    Give that a shot.

    Hello!
I tried the omega drivers-and so far they seem to work. They installed easily, with no problems. At one point they asked for directx 9-but I was able to continue the install with directx 7 instead.
With the other ati drivers, every time I played the game "thief'-I would look at a map and the computer would freeze up,or I would start running around uncontrolably and had to reload a quick save to "settle" the game down. Both problems seem to be resolved.
Thanks for the reference. Why is it that most online drivers are so difficult to install? It seems like you just get one error message after another even tho you have the correct version.
    Thanks again,Chad

I'm glad to hear that you have the problem resolved.

The Omega drives have been popular with Windows users for years. Probably for the very reasons you described above. Drivers are a fickle lot. They never seem to work the same on any two given systems.

Let us know if you have any other problems.

    Happy Gaming!
