    Default Re Sygate

    Hello,

I downloaded the Sygate firewall (v5.6.2608) and it appears to be working fine except that when I look at what's running, the list always shows "SMC not responding". If I close it down, the firewall icon on the desktop disappears and the program stops running.
I uninstalled and re-installed and this still happens.
And yet, it does seem to be working ok - any guidance for me? (Am running under W98se.)

How can you tell that the software is running?

I'm just curious because as you said that it's showing that the program is not responding.

did the firewall ever block any thing?

Since the program is clearly not working for you. and now-a-days it's very important to have firewall. I recommend you to find some alternative such as Mcafee Firewall or something similar.

    Default Sygate "working"

I'm as sure as I can be that the software is working: 1) it has warned me of potential threats, 2) the desktop icon occasionally flashes color, and 3) the logs are recording.

Doesn't make sense, but when I hit ctl-alt-del, there it is:"SMC not responding". Might it be a Windows error/problem I can ignore?

Since logs are recording and it seems like working. You may ignore it but I wanted you to double check something.

Go to your logs and look at the time of the logging. If the software logs the activities, then you should be able to see the logs by minute if not by hours.

If you find any jump in the log. Go ahead and try some other software.

For example, if your computer was on from 8 am to 8 pm and the log was every minute and let's say from noon to 5 pm the log was missing then after 5 pm to 8 pm log was there. Then there is a problem with the software.

Also if you think that you might not be able to understand the log. You can post it here as an image or upload it in a text file without any personal information in it and I will be glad to take a look at it.

    Thank You,
    Chirag

    Default Thanks Chirag

I've been checking my traffic logs and they are, in fact, recording minute by minute for all the time I'm connected to the internet. So, I think I'm probably ok and the "SMC - not responding" msg is a quirk. Would you agree?

Yea. Since the logs are OK. I agree with you that the software is working fine.
