Default Mac, Firefox: Upgraded after downgraded, but some functions seem to be missing

I've searched the internet, and posted in other forums, to find a solution to this problem, but havn't found anything, so here goes:

I'm used to always use the newest version of Firefox, but some weeks ago I found an advice in a web forum to use Firefox 2.0.0.17 in order to be able to use a certain website properly (Swedish site CSN). In the same forum was a link to Oldapps.com, there I found a 2.0.0.17 for Mac (I have OS X 10.5.8), installed and downgraded.

However, when I tried to use the webbsite again it still didn't work so I decided to switch back to newest Firefox, 3.5.2.
Then Firefox started to act strange: new Firefox seem to have lost some of it's new functions and still behaves like old Firefox, all though I have tried to re-install 3.5.2. several times. The info in "About Firefox" also tells me I (again) have 3.5.2.

Here's what's not working as it should:

    * The design of the tab bar still looks like older Firefox. That's not much of a problem really, but what's annoying is that:

*Firefox no longer saves (or asks me if I want to save) the tabs I'm currently using to restore them when opening Firefox the next time. I've checked Settings, and double checked that my choice is "show windows and tabs from previous session", but apparently it's not working.

    * When I'm opening Firefox after having closed it, regardless of if I just closed the window, quitted the whole program or the computer, it just shows a blank page, even though in Settings it still says that my starting page should be the ordinary Firefox/Google-search page (I've also tried the "reset to original settings" button).

I'm new to this forum, hope I posted in the righ section. Would be really grateful for some help

Here is a way to completely remove Firefox from your system and install any version you would like to download.
    • First of all write down all of the Firefox add-ons you are using.
    • Then back up your bookmarks from firefox. (How to backup favorites or bookmarks in Firefox for mac? | Browsers)
    • Drag the Firefox application to the Trash.
    • Firefox also has a .plist file at ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist you may wish to remove.
    • If you also wish to remove your Firefox user data and settings (bookmarks, extensions, etc.) trash the "Firefox" folder, located here: ~Library/Application Support/Firefox. [2] See Removing user profile data (below) for additional information.
  3. Files to remove
  4. /Applications/Firefox.app
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Firefox
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist
  5. Now you can go to Old Version of Firefox for Mac Download and download any version of firefox you like.

Then install add-ons from the list you wrote down and finally restore bookmarks back. (Go to Bookmarks tab, and select organize bookmarks) and then simple import the file you saved earlier.

Thanks for the advice! Sorry to say it didn't really work...

I followed all the steps, installed the 3.5.2. again and managed to restore my bookmarks as the final step.
Now when I open up Firefox, Start/search page appears instead of the blank, so that's an improvement, but it still won't save my tabs when I close, or restore them when I restart Firefox. And it still looks like the old version 2.0.0.17 that I've been wanting to get rid of.
This really confuses me, how do I get Firefox to again save my tabs until next session?

Edit: I noticed now when I quited the Firefox program and reopened it that it again opens with a blank page. Then, if I only close the window and then open up another window (not quiting the whole program) the Start/Search page appears again.
Now I've gone thrue the quit/start, close/open-process a few times, samt thing every time.

Saving tabs is not included in firefox, however you can do so by quitting the whole windows and not just the tab itself. Once you close a tab and try opening a new one it will go back to its home page........for example if your home page is a blank page and you are working on yahoo.....once you close the yahoo tab and opened another tab, it will reset from the original homepage which is blank but if you closed the whole window, then try opening a firefox the same window will appear thus making it look like that you have saved your previous session.

Ok, now I'm even more confused...

I see what you write, roipatrick, but I know that before I did the downgrading in the first place, Firefox used to ask me "Do you want firefox to save all your tabs and reopen them when Firefox is reopened" (off course I'm talking about when I close the whole window, not one single tab) or something like that. And even if I had to restart the computer, and force all apps to be closed, without having the chanse to close Firefox properly, it still would start by showing the tabs from the previous sessions.
Can it be that this is something Firefox suddenly decided to not do anymore and that being the reason that it no longer works for me?

Yeah, it should be that simple... That was the first thing I checked, and I have had those choises all the time, but it still doesn't work.

As I wrote in my first post, evertyhing worked perfectly until I downloaded an earlier version of Firefox, and then re-installed the newest version.

Yes I know what you mean. Whenever you close window, firefox will always ask if you want to save it. And when you click yes, the next time you open Firefox, it will give you option to open the saved tabs. I am not sure why it's not working with you now.
but you can try this and see if this works. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1249
This is the least that we could do help, find ways to solve the problem.
