I suggest you ask the manufacturer to take a look at you iPod. They have technicians specially trained for fixing iPods.
Thank you.

Oh, I'm sorry. You can also check some technicians specialized in troubleshooting.

I have read a similar problem you have while searching the net about possible ways to fix your iPod. Sadly most posts i have read shows the same result. There are two problems to be considered when your iPod pops up a frowning smile.
1. The whole iPod went bad/corrupted.
2. Just another battery problem.
There's only one solution i have read. The sad thing is if you try taking it to some iPod fixing shops it will cost you more, more than enough to purchase a new one.
On the other hand, the ticking or clicking sound comes from the iPod itself trying to reset itself. It has a part wherein the system will reset itself anytime it think the whole iPod will freeze itself.

I've also searched for this problem, and I think if you can afford it, its better if you purchase one. But if you really want to save this, you should seek a good ipod technician that can fix it. But it may cost more.
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object?
Have it serviced from the manufacturer or an iPod Technician. Seems like your iPod storage component is defective and I think needs reheating. Reheating involves Hot Air tools to correctly position the solder points. Hope this helps.
I totally agree with this post. I have seen one of these tools in our country. It is like a mini vacuum with a small end, small enough to re heat small point like dots in a circuit board of an iPod. You can buy it but first you must know someone who actually uses it and have your iPod fixed.
