    I can recommend you Avast in Windows 7. It's better than AVG less resources needed and full performance. Visit their site here AVAST!

    Yes AVG is now compatible with Windows 7 so you can use that. Both AVG and Avast are free and easy to use so I would say just use the one you are most comfortable with.

    Ok thanks, i was also wondering whether there are any opinions on whether i should go for the freeware or buy? i noticed that a lot of my friends have paid software and they never seem to have any problems with their computers. Thanks again

    There are many antivirus compatible for windows 7. Aside from AVG, there are many more. Take a look at this link and hope you can decide after seeing the list of anivirus for windows 7.

    AVg 9.0 has just been released and it does work with win7 also as an aside it is used by NASA for mission critical stuff so if its good enough for them.........

    I have tried both AVG9 and Avast and performance is satisfactory even they are freeware.

    Dude i do suggest you to use avast home edition for your new pc..
    I do use that for my pc and it sounds good as it is a very light software.

    Another piece of new info.
    While trying both the AVG9 Free and Avast Home Edition one by one on a Pentium-III PC with 128 MB SDRAM and Win2K environment (sounds pre-historical), I found that AVG9 made the PC slower to boot and somehow prevented Yahoo! Mail homepage to load.
    Replacing it with Avast solved the problems.

    Go for Avast Home Edition as 'tusherdcc' suggested. It supports Win9x, 2K, XP and ......

    Yes I agree Avast is not power hungry yet very powerful anti-virus.
