Default itunes 7 won't play my P2P music..

Idiot here downloaded iTunes 7, and now it won't play my Limewire music. Before download, no problems. Uninstalled 7 and downloaded 6, from here, but the problem remains. Has Apple left a little hidden poop pile that remains even after the uninstall of 7? Or can someone help me with a true "step-by-step" (computer amateur here) process to clear out the offending blocker? I tried to download iTunes 5, but Windows blocked the attempt since OldApps didn't have a signature or something. Another forum suggested the erasing of iTunes Preferences folder, while iTunes was closed, but I couldn't figure out how to accomplish his idea. Thanks for your input...

Is this relevant to my issue above? iTunes "help" says it won't play older AAC files downloaded from the internet. Can I change the AAC status? As I remember, during the transfer of my Limewire music to the new iTunes 7, a box would come up talking about AAC now and then. Is this the problem maker?

Alright there are several questions that i have.

open up the folder where you saved all of the limewire music files. and let me know what is the filetype of those songs. like mp3, aac, wav or something else?

just to make sure that iTunes 5, 6, 7 plays old aac files, I try it on my xp and it seems like that there was no problem playing those old acc files on any old versions. So I can tell that there is no problem with the itunes.

You might want to drag one of the music file that you want to play to itunes and see what happens. Also can you tell me if there is any error message you get in iTunes?

    Lightbulb Limewire + iTunes

I use iTunes 6.0.5 and my limewire files work fine. Here is my suggestion. Uninstall all iTunes programs. Then download 6.0.5 (iTunes). Do you have an iPod? Before doing the uninstall, let me know if you have one or not.

i am having the same problem as the first person with my itunes :/
it will not let me add my limewire music into my itunes library. I tried everything uncluding dragging it to the itunes icon on my desktop. Nothing worked! and almost all of my songs are "mp3" except for a couple which were "mp4". Help! is there any ways to solve this problem without completely deleting itunes? because won't that delete all my music? how can i delete itunes without losing all my music?

No no no.... There is no need to unistall or delete music files. In order to play newly downloaded files from LimeWire in itunes is fairly simple.

Fist find out where limewire is storing your new music files. Then open iTunes. Go to Files menu.

Select "Add a folder to library"

Browse to the folder where music is downloaded and that will add music to your library directly.

I am sure I can explain it further but I need to go to class so let me know if you need further help.

    Furthermore to what 007 said...

If you decide to unistall iTunes in future. You should go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall it from there. It should not delet any of your music files.

thankyou! i tried doing that and it added the music i had recently added plus the songs i have deleted from my itunes over the past year. But will i have to go through this process and "add a folder to library" every time i download a new song on itunes? is there a simpler way? thanks for all your help

In iTunes the only way to add music is the way I described above. Let's hope that in future Apple, Inc. will add auto sync feature so we don't have to do it every time.
