You can find out which version your friend has and then try to install that from oldapps. You will basically have to remove the newer Skype version and then install the old one. If everything goes well, you should have everything back to normal.
First I want to apologize to all those good souls that will read my post for my computer illiteracy and I'd be very grateful if some of those could help me to sort this mess out.
I had an old version of skype for mac (which I don't even know because a friend --who was supposed to help--dumped it, think 3. s/thing). For a while every time I'd open it I'd get the window for the update. I kept putting it off and every time it kept popping up so i clicked the update. An emg (?) file appeared on desktop and I left it alone (the least I do the better). Nothing seemed to have changed and I was happy, the window stopped popping up and in fact I thought "that" was the updated version. Then, I was at this friend's home trying to get help with iPhoto and instead he started fooling around with the desktop "to tidy it up". Doing so he trashed that skype install emg file on the DT and hell broke loose. Basically skype disappeared (icon in grey with a no parking sign on it) so he went on to download the actual new version, which is 5.0.0.7994. It's a mess. The skype contacts that used to be grouped on top left are not there but interspersed with the rest of the skype out contacts. I had two skype out contact lists (don't know why, but it worked for me). Basically there was a first group in alphabetical order and then a second group starting again from A to Z. Now the arrangement is horrible and, plus, the second list group is nowhere to be found. I can't even dare to make hypothesis or ask precise questions at this point because I just spent 4 hours with my friend battling with his ego and growing more and more frustrated by not being able to correct the situation. I signed-in on his computer. He has an old version. I entered my data and it started loading, looked (graphically) like the one I had, it kept loading forever then it gave me a message basically saying that it could not be done. I did it again and the third time I was able to load it. Here too, no second list... but I wish at least i could get that one into my computer!!! What happens if I am to install an old version now. What would I have to do and will I have all my contacts there... I cannot make anything out of this. I want my good old skype back, with my 2 contact lists... anyone has an idea what should I do?
thanks a million, f/
