Maybe you have to reinstall the real player program. Programs tend to become broken ( sorry for the term) when used for a long time. Maybe the solution you think is the real solution to your problem.

Please help! My husband and I both have 2nd Gen. iPod naos, and they (as of yesterday) are BOTH CORRUPTED! I think I have tried everything. I went to the Apple store, where they restored both iPods, so they are back to factory settings, and he checked our USB cable- it was fine. He told us to uninstall and reinstall our iTunes (I did) on our computer (Windows XP). It is stil corrputed! Apple also installed the latest operating systems on our iPods, and we downloaded the newest version of iTune. What's up with all of this? I've looked at the prior responses, and we have tried it all!

    How to fix the iPod?

There are multiple ways to fix the corrupted iPod, though it’s not 100% gauranteed it will work coz chances of HDD corruption do exist.

    - Restore method Try putting it in disk mode by holding the Menu + Center buttons until the Apple logo appears, then when it Logo appears, switch to holding Center + Play/Pause buttons until it says “Ok to Disconnect”. Then try formatting or restoring it and see if it fixes it at all. To get out of disk mode, reset your iPod by holding Menu + Center buttons until the Apple logo appears again. If this fails, proceed with the next.

    - Disk management: plug in iPod > Right click My computer > Manage > under “storage”, click on “disk management” right-click on the iPod it shows. “Change drive letter and paths…” then change the drive letter to something different. Then unplug the iPod and plug it back in again. It should work.

    - Driver Re-install -Plug your ipod into your computer, My Computer > manage > Device Manager and click on Universal Serial Bus Controller. Then click the plus sign and find the one with your device (it should say something like “USB Mass Storage Device.”. Right-click on that device and select “Uninstall.” Let the screen refresh. Replug your device from the computer, wait about 5 seconds then plug it back in.

    - Formatting and Restoring Another way is to format the iPod HDD (and then restore) to remove minor disk errors that might have come over usage of iPod.

To proceed with this, you need a utility called HP USB. You can either google it or download it here. Format the drive as FAT 32 and then you should be able to restore it with no problem.

    - Try CopyTrans Doctor Its a good software for iPod recovery and fixes. Guide available here.
If All of the above methods fail, probability of having bad clusters is high.
How to confirm iPod Hard disk has gone bad?

If you succeed in doing the quick format with the utility tool, and can now right click on Apple ipod in “my computer” and get the menu, proceed with this. Select the iPod in “my computer” right click >Properties > Tools > check disk. MAke sure you have the checkbox ” Attempt for the recovery of bad sectors” selected. Now your disk is checked for consistency. It will be checked in 2 phases. If it fails in any one of those with un-repairable message or freezes infinitely, then there is no solution, you would have to rush to apple to get the support. Else try the above steps again with the latest iTunes, it should work.

Hey, I've been all over the net and this thread, but no one seems to have the same problem as me. I'll go through what happened in case it clues to a solution:

    - After unsafely removing my wireless net USB from the computer, a surge of sorts immediately caused my IPod to bugger up and stop playing the music at the time. I quickly found my IPod was corrupted (It's a 120GB Classic).

    - I put the IPod into disk mode and restored it. However, my Itunes still said it was corrupted!

    - I went to other PCs (both Mac and Windows) and my IPod worked perfectly fine. I could gather and play music from any of them. The only problem I see now is my Itunes recognises ALL functional IPods as corrupt -_- (I tested my friend's perfectly fine IPod to make sure)

I've tried re-installing my IPod USB Drivers, changing the drive letter / path and completely removing and re-installing Itunes. Nothing has worked!

If any of you know something to help find a solution, I would appreciate to have your advice.
    Thanks

just to share what I did to resolve this kind of situation with my brother in law's ipod

Let me just break it down.

    1) Check your iPod by resetting it and when the apple logo first appears hold the middle select button and the rewind button to enter a diagnostic mode. Then press the menu button to enter manual testing. Scroll down to IO and press select, then select the hard disk option, then select the hard disk specs option. Read the data to check your hard disk is detected as the correct size (30Gb in my case), if it isn't then reset the iPod and repeat this step until the hard disk detects as the correct size.

    2) Reset your iPod, as the apple logo appears hold down the middle select button and the play button, it will then boot to a screen with a tick in the middle and it will say Disk Mode along the top of the screen.

    3) Now load iTunes and then plug the iPod into your computer and let it detect. iTunes should detect your iPod though it may not properly detect it. If iTunes doesn't detect an iPod AT ALL then reset your iPod and repeat steps 2 & 3 until it does.

    4) Now your iTunes should display your iPod or an iPod just call IPOD, click on your iPod and restore, you can use the same version software or update - it doesn't matter. Even if your iPod normally receives an error when restoring it SHOULD restore as long as you're in disk mode. When it is done restoring DO NOT UNPLUG THE IPOD, just let iTunes re detect it.

5: Now go to My Computer and right click on your iPod (could be called Removable Disk and go to properties. Now click on the tools tab and run Scan disk (Check Disk). In the scan disk box that opens tick both check boxes (fix automatically and surface scan) and click run, this will take a while but when it's done go to iTunes and eject the iPod, unplug it from the computer, and reset it.
You have just fixed your iPod.

Hopefully this would help you guys. Please feel free to email me for any questions.
