    Unhappy

I'm so confused! When i went to bed last night i accidentally left my ipod on. When i woke up this morning i tried to turn it off and it wouldn't let me. The ipod was completely frozen and it was off of "lock" settings
So i tried plugging it into my computer be charged and my computer told me that the ipod was CORRUPTED and i may want to restore it to it's original settings...

if i restore it, im pretty sure they mean that they will delete all the music from my ipod
so if i restore it and my ipod is completely blank how do i go about plugging in my ipod to update it without deleting my music library
because this has happened to me once before (without the corruption part) and my computer tried to delete all the music in my itunes library

    thankyou!

Doesn't your ipod work as external hard drive?

If it does then you can just make a backup folder on your desktop and copy all of your music.

You can use a softwre called copypod to trasfer all you music to your desktop. But I would recommand you to restore your ipod on some other computer and then go to your computer open up itunes and trasfer music.

hold the "center and menu" buttons down, and the ipod will reboot in a few seconds. Not corrupt, just locked-up... its a mac thing.

Let me know if it works please.

    thankyou everyone!

    help_desk:
thankyou! that's a great idea! but how do i make a "backup" folder...do i just go to my computer/ my music and drag that folder to my desktop?

    007:
is copypod free to download? because that sounds perfect!
and why would it be better to reset it on another computer? i could do that...but i would have to download itunes onto my other computer.
    thankyou for all your advice!

    Admin:
i have a pc though and i tried rebooting but the colors on the screen are distorted and black and white thanks for helping! i wish i had a mac...

    Post currupt ipod backup

Making a backup folder is really easy. First of all make a folder called "Music Backup" on your desktop. Then close iTunes (if running) plug ur ipod into the usb drive. As the computer recognise it as an external harddrive, open up that drive.

You should see some music files in that external drive. Now copy all of your music files and paste them into that folder called "Music Backup" on your desktop.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

From what 007 suggested, that would work too. Take your ipod to another computer. Install iTunes there and formate the iPod. (This way you will loose all of your music on the ipod though)

Then go back to your own computer plugin the ipod and copy new music.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, you can try both ways but I suggest you to try to backup your music first for whatever reason. It's always a good idea to have a backup copy.

    Enjoy

    hey again!
well...(for some reason i have no idea how) my ipod isn't corrupted anymore...

but NOW almost 1/3 of the songs in my itunes library won't play. I click on them and a grey exclamation point pops up next to the song name and says something along the lines of "this file cannot be found"
i've checked in my documents and my computer but i can't find the files anywhere! do you have any idea how i can get the files back? are they gone for good? im so confused!
and which version of itunes was the one that was used before they updated to the brand new version?

    thankyou so much!!
