skype quits instantly

i've got a G3 iBook. until now i never needed skype, so i hadn't noticed i'm a bit ancient. i'm running OS X 10.2.4 though, which isn't too prehistoric. i've downloaded a number of skype versions now. each one i try to start however gives me "application unexpectedly quit" straight away. any tangible reason? and can i change something that will me allow me to use the program after all? i'd be grateful for suggestions.

You should remove skype completely first.

Uninstall Skype

To uninstall Skype, quit Skype, open your Applications folder and sadly drag your copy of Skype to the trash. Your user information, including your Contacts list and call log, is retained on your computer in case you should decide to try Skype again at a later date. These files can be found in “username/Library/Skype”. This directory containing harmless data can also be deleted.

Then go ahead and try one of the old version and let me know what's happening?
