itunes 6.0.5 & ipod 20g song transfer to ipod problem

Hi,
I have a 20g iPod and am using iTunes 6.0.5 am i am not able to transfer all songs to the iPod after i import them into iTunes. I downloaded this version of iTunes because 7 did not even recognize the iPod, im guessing something with windows xp. Anyway, i can import the entire CD but then only about 2/3 of the songs will transfer to the iPod when i try to drag and drop them.
when they do not transfer i am getting the error message "attempting to copy to the disk 'users iPod' failed. The disk could not be read or written to."
This is not a brand new iPod i got it from a friend who used iTunes 7 and it worked fine. also i took it to work and downloaded iTunes 7 and it worked fine at work also.
Does anybody have any suggestions why some would work and others would not? Im pulling my hair out as I have tried many ideas found on this website and others. I can't figure out how to do a restore with this version either, is that what i need to do or is it something with the computer? I am guessing its a computer issue but im not really sure.

May I ask if you have only downloaded itunes7 at home the once? Im wondering if you have a corrupt copy or file on your pc??

Here is what you can do.

First check if the hold button on ipod is not on. Then use windows media player to rip music from a cd. For more info on ripping music go here: http://portables.about.com/od/mp3pla...ripCDWMP10.htm

Then make sure that usb in the computer is connected in the back not in front. Usually the back usb are much faster on desktop than front ones.

Lastly, to downgrade your itunes. Go to My Music > iTunes. Cut itunes library files and paste it on the desktop and install older itunes.
