Cannot get old ITunes versions to work

When I download and install ITunes 6.05, every thing works fine until I click on icon. Then I get a message saying that "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." If I remove the program and reinstall, I still get the same error message. I, too, am in this predicament because ITunes 7.016 has not worked for me. Right now I can do nothing with my Ipod. Can someone please help me to get the older version installed? Be advised my computer savvy is quite limited, so explanations have to be understandable for a newcomer to the field.

i cant get my itunes to even open it sits there with the hour glas then nothing happens.

Both of you guys should remove iTunes completely. (Read this to remove iTunes completely) Thereafter you should try to reinstall version 6 or 7 and see if you can get it to work
