I have a problem with my Ipod in that it isn't recognised on Windows or Itunes and keeps telling me that it appears corrupted and to restore it. I do this, but it still does not work and all my songs have been wiped from the Ipod (they're still on Itunes thank god). I have an Ipod 60BG colour.
I have just tried to install the Itunes 6 version, as my problems seemed to start when I upgraded to Itunes 7., but it wont let me install it. If I delete my current Itunes 7, will I lose all my songs.
Thanks in advance.
Admin - I tried this, deleting the current 7.0.5 version and then downloading the 6.0.2 version, but it would not start up. Message came up saying that it can't access files due to it being a later version. So, I have gone back to 7.0.5 and wait another suggestion. My kids use the computer for their music, but have a $500 Ipod paperweight sitting nearby waiting to be fixed.
If you are using windows XP This should do it.For all of you that need to do the same it's pretty easy:
I downloaded the 6.05 install file from from oldapps, uninstalled 7.01 and then re-installed 6.05. When I ran iTunes it did give me the error message that the library file was created in a new version and couldn't open, but I then deleted the 'itunes library.itl' file (in My Music > iTunes folder) and then replaced it with the backup that was automatically created when I installed 7.01 (in My Music > iTunes > Previous iTunes Libraries). iTunes then started up fine with all my music and playlists. And all the skipping and CPU bogging is better now.
Thanks. I have finally managed to get rid of Itunes7 and installed version 6. It asked me to restore the Ipod, but half way through I got this error - .\iPodFormatFAT32.cpp line 1068. Ok, now I'm stuck. Any suggestions. Itunes6 doesn't recognise my Ipod.
Apparently this is quite a known issue. There are few answers I can find other than the following.
Uninstall everything to do with Ipod. When it asks you if you want to delete your ripped music/library/other files too, say no.
Once you have done all this, reboot your computer. Once everything is up and running plug in your ipod via a usb port you are sure works. The computer should tell you it has found new hardware. Put in the cd and direct the windows auto installer to the cd.
You should now have a system that works with your ipod, but not thru itunes, more likely media player or whatever you have.
Reboot once again. The install itunes software downloaded. Reboot. Start up and it should *Fingers Crossed* work.
But this isnt always successful. It will work for some and not for others.
