itunes plays music too fast

I just had to reinstall my operating system after a big virus attack. I run Windows 2000 Pro. Previous to my crash, I ran iTunes 6 (plus some decimals) on this same system. Everything worked perfectly. I have all my music files backed up to an external hard drive. I downloaded the new Itunes 7 (plus some decimals) and all my music plays like the chipmunks. Even CD's and music from the Itunes Store plays too fast. I contacted the Itunes tech support and they told me it was a sound card problem with my computer. I don't believe them, since the CD player the comes as an accessory works just fine. So, I removed both Itunes and Quicktime, deleted the My Music file from my hard drive, re-booted and reinstalled Itunes 6 from this site. I imported the music files from my external HD that were saved when I still had the old version of Itunes installed. My music still plays too fast. Any suggestions?

SlimServer users have reported problems with playback of WAV and AIFF files that are anything other than 44.1kHz and 16bit. For example, AIFF files at the 48kHz or 22.05kHz sample rate play back too fast or too slow, while WAV files at the 48kHz/8bit setting have trouble playing at all.
If you experience these problems, try using a music editor to change the sample rate to "44.1 kHz" and the bit dept to "16 bit". Or, use iTunes as your music server, which does not appear to have these playback problems.

This is all i could find on music playing too fast, if this doesnt help let me know and I will try a different avenue
