Default no mountable file system, iTunes 6.0

I downloaded the iTunes 6.0 version to my Mac OS X Version 10.3.9, however when I try to open the downloaded file on the desktop I get an error message:

"The following disk images failed to mount
Image: iTunes_6.0_Mac_OS_X.dmg Reason: no mountable file system"

Did I install the wrong program? or it there something else I should do. Thanks for your help!

There is a post somewhere on this forum that tells you how to first completely remove itunes. Once you do that version 6.0.5 should work fine.
