Hi, I have followed all your threads about how to remove iTunes 7 from my Powerbook running with OS X 10.4 so as to return to itunes 6. ... I have followed these instructions yet when i click on the installer package and get to the 'select destination' screen i am still told that I can't install because a newer version exists in this location. The post that provided my instructions was the following:
Drag the application's icon to the Trash. (Done)
Open the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder and look for one or more preference files named "com.apple.iTunes....plist" and drag them to the Trash. (Done)
Look in /Library/ folder for an iTunes folder and if you find one drag it to the Trash. (Done)
Look in /Home/Library/ folder for an iTunes folder and drag it to the Trash. (Done)
Last, in /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder look for two files with names com.apple.nnnnnnn.plist and drag them to the Trash. (couln't find these file names, ByHost folder was empty, searched in Spotlight to no avail)
Open Activity Monitor (Utilities folder) and in the process list look for iTunesHelper. Select it, then click on Quit Process icon. Quit or Force Quit the process. (Done)
Now open the Accounts preference pane, click on Login Items tab, look for the iTunesHelper entry and select it, then click the "-" button and remove it from the list. (Done)
Empty the Trash. (Done)
This should fully remove iTunes and its associated files/folders.
I have gone over the instructions and rechecked several times. I guess there must be some trace of itunes left on my computer somewhere. I have searched my computer for files names containing itunes and the other file names mentioned above. I have backed up then removed all my music, although there are some VLC files which i assume don't need removing.
I would be mighty grateful for any advice!
