Question iTunes 7.3 to 7.2 for Windows - 07-06-2007

I foolishly upgraded to iTunes 7.3.0.54 for Windows and now I'm getting "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)" bug.

This is a real pain as it means I can't add any new music or playlists or change anything in iTunes (well I can temporarily but when I close and reopen all changes are lost).

I now want to go back to the 7.2 version.

I found the older version here but wanted any advise on how to go about the installation. I know there's a whole thread around going to older iTunes versions but it's so full of other scenarios that I'm not entirely sure which piece of advice would fit what I want to do.

Are there any issues that I should be aware of? Sequence of steps I should follow? Or can I just uninstall 7.3, install 7.2, point at my library and off I go?

Philippe

OK - sorted!

I performed a system restore to a point previous to the upgrade of iTunes to 7.3. This left me with a 7.2 version that didn't work because some components were missing.

I then ran the 7.2 installer from this site and now I'm back up with a fully operating system that will save the library without any issues.

Did the same on my wife's machine and now we're running fine on the same library.

I, too am having a similar problem and wish to downgrade back to iTunes 7.2, but I am really nervous of irrevocably ruining saved files.

I upgraded to itunes 7.3 a few days ago and now my blasted iPod won't work and is not being recognized by iTunes. I've downloaded several new songs from the itunes music store and it saves them alright in the library but when I plug in my iPod to charge and (iTunes usually opens right up), it won't recognize or upload my new songs/playlists.

I'm not a computer wiz by any means, so if anyone has a simple play/by/play list of directions to downgrade, I'd be very much appreciative. I'm working with a 2003 Dell Dimensions (if that has anything to do with it) and Windows XP. I should probably also mention that my iPod is a G1 Nano.

Please help! ~Jen

First of all Go to My Music in My documents > iTunes (folder). Backup all files in a folder called Backup on the desktop (Copy them not cut and paste).

Drag Three files shown in the attachment on the desktop. Then uninstall current version of itunes. Go to http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm and download and install any version 7 or 6 you want.

It should work fine if not let me know.

Unhappy Re: iTunes 7.3 to 7.2 for Windows - 08-20-2007

I recently downloaded iTunes 7.3 and wish to downgrade back to 7.2. I'm not sure how to go about this, and I'm very concerned about losing my files. I turned on my computer one day to find every music file I'd downloaded gone. So I'm in the re-downloading stage, and would hate to have to do it again. I'm not too smart in this field, so if anyone could give me detailed step to step instructions, it would be very much appreciated!

I have Windows Vista.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

4Hey Julian,

First of all find all of your music files and back them up in a folder on the Desktop. Then go to My documents > iTunes > iTunes Music Library.xml cut and paste it on the desktop. Then uninstall itunes 7.3. Then go to http://www.oldapps.com and download itunes version 7.2 and install it. There after restore your music files to the folder where they belong and open itunes.

Good luck and let me know if you need more help.
