What computer do you have? What are the specs on it? (memory? speed? operating system?)
Also do you have any newer version of installed on it?
I have tried to download every single version of AIM but everytime I go to run it, it freezes on that window that says "AIM is not currently your default messaging program... would you like to make it?" You're supposed to be able to click yes or no, but mine freezes instead. I've tried deleting every AIM program, I've restarted the computer a million times... what is going on?? Can someone help me figure out how to make it work and get past that screen?

I don't have any versions of AIM on it at all because I deleted all of them... I don't have any of the specs now cause I can't remember them, but I suppose I could look them up if it's totally necessary. AIM 5.1-5.9 all do that and I hate 6.0+.
It's OK if you don't have the specs. First of all go to "Program Files" --> "AIM" and delete all files
Then I want you to try this:
Look at the attachments for more help >>>
- Download any version of 5.9 from here: http://www.oldapps.com/aim.php
- Start the installation and first select "yes" if you agree to Terms of Service
- Click next and then choose a custom location for installation. I recommend making a folder called "AIM" on the desktop.
- I have included some images from my instllation and hopefully that will help you.
- The version I tried was "aim593857.exe" from the main aol download page on the oldapps
Yea it froze right on that screen again.(
That really sucks. Have you tried using any other programs like: trillian, Miranda, or Gimp? They all support aim screen name. Also if you want you can use the web based AIM messenger.
I dont know if i can really help you with this frozen screen. It would be another story though if i was there in person.![]()
